History & Heritage
The Bear dates back to 1432 and has operated as a coaching inn for over 600 years. Original features include a cobbled forecourt and an old archway leading to an inner courtyard. The hotel received the Inn of the Year 2010 award from the Good Pub Guide and has twice won the 'Best Pub in Britain' award.
Award-Winning Dining
The restaurant menu changes frequently to showcase local ingredients and seasonal specialties. The bar serves a number of real ales along with vintage wines, and the kitchen accommodates special dietary menus. Booking a table is recommended due to the restaurant's popularity.
Rooms & Amenities
Renovated rooms feature locally inspired decor and modern facilities such as satellite TV and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel provides daily housekeeping, ironing and laundry services, plus tea/coffee makers in all rooms. Family rooms and facilities for disabled guests are available, and the property is dog-friendly with pet baskets and bowls.
Location & Activities
The Bear is centrally located in Crickhowell, within walking distance of Crickhowell Castle and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Guests have access to a garden, sun terrace, and an outdoor beer garden, with free on-site parking included. Nearby attractions include the Big Pit National Coal Museum, and hiking routes start directly from the hotel.
Pet-Friendly Environment
The hotel is dog-friendly and provides pet baskets, pet bowls, and a dedicated welcome pack for canine guests. Dogs are welcome in the bar area but not in the restaurant, with an additional surcharge of £20 per stay. The property includes a garden and terrace where pets can accompany their owners.
