Dining & Drinks
The Old Poets' Corner has a bar with 10 draught beers, ciders, and a wine menu, including ales from the Titanic Brewery. Meals are homemade with large portion sizes, and a Sunday carvery is available. The kitchen also caters to various dietary needs, and guests have access to a pleasant outdoor seating area with views of the Amber stream.
Accommodation
Each room is named after a Titanic Brewery beer, such as Iceberg, Captain Smith, and Steerage, and comes with complimentary bottles of beer. Rooms include a flat-screen TV, private bathroom with shower and hairdryer, and comfortable beds with clean linen. Some rooms are twin or double, and guests can request a quieter location away from the pub's stage area.
Location & Surroundings
The hotel is in the historical village of Ashover, 15 km from Chatsworth House and 34 km from Sherwood Forest. Hiking trails start from the property, and the Peak District National Park is within easy reach. Nearby attractions also include Haddon Hall and Buxton Opera House, 39 km away.
Pet & Family
The hotel allows pets in rooms and public areas, with dog-friendly policies that include complimentary sausages at breakfast for four-legged guests. Families receive children's meals and high chairs, and the welcoming staff accommodate groups. The pub hosts regular community events, including live music and quiz nights, and the function room is available for private gatherings.
Entertainment & Events
Live music and quiz nights occur regularly, with past events including Celtic dancing and local fair day celebrations. The pub has a function room that can host private parties, and the chef can prepare thematic dining specials. Outdoor seating overlooks the Amber valley, and guests can enjoy the open fireplace in winter.
Highlights
Beer: 10 draught ales including Titanic Brewery and guest beers
Location: Historical Ashover village, 15 km from Chatsworth House
Rooms: Beer-themed rooms with complimentary bottles
Pet Policy: Dogs welcome with free breakfast sausages
Dining: Large homemade portions, Sunday carvery available
Entertainment: Live music, quiz nights, and local events
“The Old Poets' Corner strikes a rather pleasant balance, offering a genuinely friendly pub atmosphere with food that hits the mark, particularly the hearty sausage and mash and a unique British/Italian lasagna. Its location in Ashover proves quite convenient, with lovely walks literally on the doorstep and thoughtfully provided route suggestions adding to the appeal. I found the en-suite rooms, themed around Titanic memorabilia, to be comfortable and surprisingly quiet, even on busier weekend nights, with the unexpected touch of complimentary bottled beers a welcome bonus.”
